Out of the haze of the velvet morning comes the first band to ever put the small town of Resolven, at the throbbing heart of Neath Valley, Wales, on the map. They are called, quite simply, El Goodo, and their debut, self-titled album is a gloriously effortless piece of pop music perfection. El Goodo was unleashed upon the British record-buying public by their good friends and countrymen Super Furry Animals, who originally released their self-titled debut on their very own independent label, Placid Casual, in late 2005. We at Empyrean have the privilege of bringing their North American debut, and it is available in the store now! El Goodo is featured as SPIN Magazine's artist of the day for 10/11/06 at SPIN.com. Please go and check it out and vote for El Goodo as artist of the month! There are also plans for an El Goodo / Super Furry Animals split 12" release, check back soon for full details.

Also out this month is the third full length recording from Brooklyn's Great Lakes. The band's intention was to make an engaging, varied, and solid record; and to capture the organic feel and sound of a band playing together. That they've progressed and evolved as songwriters and musicians is immediately evident, as it's lyrically more direct and something of a new sound for them. It all still sounds like Great Lakes, but they're into new territory here, and sounding better than ever. The band has just returned from a successful North American tour with The Clientele and will be hitting the road again soon. Check out their My Space page at www.myspace.com/greatlakesband. |
